PROJECT
SCRAP2
SUSTAIN
by Ishita Bharadia
About Us
I’m Ishita Bharadia, a Grade 12 student at Aditya Birla World Academy with a deep passion for sustainability, rural empowerment, and grassroots impact. From an early age, I was drawn to finding innovative solutions that nurture both the environment and communities.
The vision for Project Scrap2Sustain was born when I witnessed the scale of textile waste generated by large industries — and realized that it was more than just an environmental problem; it was a missed opportunity for economic upliftment.
During my time volunteering and studying sustainability models, I discovered the transformative power of the circular economy — systems where waste isn't waste but a valuable resource. Inspired, I approached Arvind Textiles, one of India's largest textile manufacturers, and partnered with them to redirect their cloth remnants into new purpose-driven products.
Beyond recycling materials, I wanted to recycle potential — particularly for women in rural and underserved communities. By training factory workers' wives in basic stitching and crafting skills, Project Scrap2Sustain created dignified, sustainable employment while contributing to the environment.
Today, what started as a simple vision has become a scalable model of sustainability + social good, proving that even the smallest scraps can rebuild lives, livelihoods, and hope.

What we do
PARTNERSHIP WITH ARVIND TEXTILES
We collaborated with Arvind Textiles to access large quantities of post-production cloth remnants that would otherwise be discarded into landfills.
TRAINING AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT
We provided hands-on skill training to the wives of factory workers — teaching them to transform waste into high-quality, marketable products like reusable cloth bags, colorful scrunchies, and napkins.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Using circular design principles, our team ensured each product was durable, eco-friendly, and ethically made — emphasizing functionality without compromising style.
MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION
We built a local network of pharmacy stores willing to stock our eco-friendly alternatives, promoting sustainability at the grassroots level and supporting local commerce.
REINVESTING IN COMMUNITIES
100% of profits from sales are donated back to the workers’ families — funding education, healthcare, and day-to-day living needs, ensuring long-term impact beyond employment.
Impact Created

Diverted 110kg of textile waste from landfills
Provided stable income to 75 women
Supported over 70+ families through profit reinvestment
Fostered dignity, independence, and environmental awareness across rural communities
